Monday miscellany

in which our plucky heroine switches gears...

Today I rode over to PCC, only to find out on further discussion with helpful folks there that it is actually not advised to store things like medication in 3D printed containers. Sigh. There goes the idea of using the Helia files to make a pill case for Mischa. Now I am wondering what those files could be used for? (bead storage? stitch markers? small earrings or components of some kind? or???) So, was instead able to print out better detailed RÅSKOG wheels for my photo series. Also this week they have a "potion making" station set up with the ingredients to make some of those wonderful swirling metallic bottles (glycerin, alcohol, and colored mica powder), and I intend to make a few for the tinyworld... Tomorrow is also the laser cutter workshop at the library, and I intend to make progress on my trinket shelf project, now that we have determined that 1mm dividers are possible

~ the big pocket ~
This started life as a tee shirt, but since our plucky heroine never wears tee shirts, it is being transmogrified into the front pocket for a new pinafore. Cotton jersey isn't particularly sturdy, so after being narrowly edgebound to a backing of the same herringbone fabric as the garment, it is being "quilted" in place with many lines of running stitches. It is almost as large as the front bodice, and will serve to remind me of the years I spent living at the end of the Delphi Valley, just across the highway from the Blue Heron Bakery...

today's gratitudes -
- the multi-brown ikat pinafore, from a wonderful thrifted wrap given to me by Marian, which makes me think of her and smile
- this morning's shower with the goat milk soap Drusa made, and the new sturdy replacement handheld shower. Am still delighted with how well it stays in place when showering, compared to the old one.
- while clearing the nightstand, found a pair of backup glasses that Past Me had cleverly ordered, which had been buried beneath the assorted moop that has accumulated next to the bed. Given the difficulty in finding frames that fit and that I like, this is a big win!

Saturday snippets

in which our plucky heroine incrementally progresses...

Nothing new is completed, but various things are further along than they were. Which is basically the point.

Brenda Dayne on "Enough", a short nutritious essay well worth listening to. The topic gets more and more relevant as time passes

~ well begun ~
and about half done... Still want to give the chair a faux wood grain paint job, and create a thin leather cushion for the seat, as some of the full size ones have. This will probably live in the Caer Cardboard Art Gallery rather in the tinyfolk living spaces, as it is as much an art object as an actual chair, and also remains quite delicate/breakable.

Today, while making breakfast, I was just about to open a new bag of flaxseed meal and noticed it was the Wrong Variety. "Golden"is what I meant to buy, as it has a lighter flavor and a smoother consistency in cereal than regular. Since the packaging is almost identical, and they cost the same, it was an easy mistake. Glad I noticed before opening it. Wasn't sure if it was possible to exchange it, since I hadn't saved the receipt, but the person at the service desk at Safeway was agreeable, much to my pleased surprise. Yay!

today's gratitudes -
- being able to exchange the wrong flasxeed meal for the correct stuff
- red Bartlett pears
- In the no great loss without some gain, the fact that my expected houseguests sadly won't be visiting (due to COVID exposure) means I have a bit more time to do a really good job of tidying the house.

more Thursday thoughts

in which our plucky heroine continues making plans for the month...

I intend to be making progress on the interminable raincoat project that only needs toggles and edgebinding to be completed; tidying the public spaces for guests later this month; posting about the Advent Swap every day; and possibly getting back to daily drawing with "teeny-tiny-tober" a month of drawing tiny pleasures (said drawings being no larger than 5cm x 5cm). After Beth and Karen's visit I am hoping to start exploring TinkerCAD.  And I want to do a photo essay of my tinyfolk going to Ikea, coming home with RÅSKOG, and figuring out how to assemble it.

~ it's iconic ~
The very delicate Wishbone chair model is almost ready for priming, now that the pieces are all glued together. After much hunting online it seems that acrylic gesso is entirely acceptable as a brush-on primer, which will be better than spray primer plus I already have several jars of gesso in different colors.

"Very little is needed to make a happy life..." [ it is all within yourself in your way of thinking.]  - Marcus Aurelius, Meditations... That first bit would make a great bit of tinyworld wall calligraphic quote art.

I'm hoping to find the time to get over to see the "Everything Under A Mushroom" (a collection of smaller than normal objects) show at slowpoet gallery* which will be there between Oct 1 - Oct 15.

today's gratitudes -
- Saw nuthatches again in the front yard.
- I can lie down and rest when I feel under the weather, which I did today, possibly from the flu shot yesterday afternoon
- The compression socks I ordered arrived, and the postie put the package in the new deck box (which I acquired particularly for that very purpose.
