slightly troublesome Tuesday

in which our plucky heroine attempted refiring of the broken enamel...

... and didn't end up with good results, so instead of continuing in that path, decided to entirely remove old broken (and now occluded) enamel and start again from square zero. As the base silver disc is uniquely engraved and stamped, it was carefully abraded and cleaned and polished in preparation for new wires and enamel this week. This process took several hours. I suspect that the unleaded enamel is not as amenable to repair. Also: reminder to self to be very careful with remembering to use actual eye protection (don't simply rely on spectacles), as this almost but not quite turned into a truly horrific week!

...spent a good chunk of the day helping my pal D as a sewing mentor/consultant, as she has a big project making a silk dupioni bridesmaid dress, and wanted my input as a skillful threadmistress. We looked at patterns and brainstormed all kinds of ideas, on how to turn the alarmingly green fabric into something that would be both flattering and comfortable to wear, as well as not requiring over ten yards of Very Spendy Silk. There is now a cunning plan, and she will be doing a lot of the sewing, with tutorial input from our plucky heroine, and in exchange she will be helping me with both hands-on and moral support in my efforts to declutter Acorn Cottage, and also vehicular transport of things to the transfer station etc... a win/win exchange
